A little about Rolette

November 8th, 2007 by SRG

Since this is the “About” page, and these are our first blog entries, it may be worthwhile to give a little detail about our town.  Rolette is a small  community of about 550 people in North Central North Dakota.  What we lack in size, we make up for in terms of ambition and determination.  We can learn to live without things like traffic, crime and shopping malls and learn to accept other wonders such as glorious sunsets, clean air and front-row parking at high school football games.

Every community has its own unique set of challenges and assets.  Ours is no different and certainly there are concerns about the future, but on balance, we look forward to strengthening our little town and making it an ever better place to call home.

Our towns are close to the same size, our sign says 675 pop. Do you have a school in your town, or do they go to a neighboring one?

Rolette is fortunate to still have an active school for K-12. A number of other communities in the area have closed or consolidated their schools in the last few years. The athletic programs at the Rolette school generally are independent until the kids reach junior high and high school. At that level, we have a number of cooperative agreements (it varies by sport) with the nearby communities of Rolla, Wolford and Rocklake. The school is definitely one of the key ingredients to a healthy community.
