Artsonia-Education Through Art

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Our Rolette students have their artwork displayed in the world’s largest online student art museum, Artsonia.  These talented artists have received 30 awards and rank in the top 10 in the state  with over 160 entries so far this year.  Our young artists (K-12) have a variety of talents, some excell in painting, some in drawing and others in design.  They have been participating in this event since 2001. Headquartered in Chicago, Ill. Artsonia provides wonderful resources for kids and families.  We are able to  integrate classroom technology with family participation by enabling parents and relatives to view and comment on their children’s artwork on the Artsonia website. You may check out this website by clicking on the link provided here.  www.artsonia.com  I’m sure you will agree, our kids are pretty amazing and this shows signs of leadership for the future.

We shouldn’t be too amazed to see such wonderful talent from our community as several adult artists have shown considerable talent in the Rolette State Bank’s recent exhibit.  The Rolette Art Club gathered many exciting pieces for display during the Christmas holiday and the Centennial Murals on Main Street are further evidence of their talents.  Apparently, talent prevails and Art is closing the generation gap!

Unsung Heroes Make Small Towns Special

They blend into the woodwork as their much needed help is appreciated and welcomed by those who benefit from them. Every so often I hear someone say I didn”t realize they had been volunteering all those years and I said i didn’t know that either. So if you bump into Jim on the street thank him for playing his fiddle at the nursing home weekly or Rocky who plays his quitar and sings at nursing homes regularly. Anyone we can think of who goes the extra mile is worthy of our praise because they continue to make this town a wonderful place to live.
