How do the people of Rolette celebrate valentines day?

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

table.jpgThe mood was set. The All For Christ Youth Group worked hard selling tickets, decorating the Memorial hall, preparing the food, waiting on tables, serving the food, and last but not least doing the cleanup.  Thanks to a great crew, an awesome caterer, a pastor and his very involved family (thanks Emily and Joel), and some very involved parents; the annual valentines day banquet was a success (at least by me!).  The tickets were $50 a couple.  The meal include four courses with the main one steak and grilled shrimp.  Piano music, soft candlelight and good company completed the evening! This is a fund raiser that served 124 people.  The money will be used for the All for Christ Youth summer trip.  With the close of the evening door prizes were given away from local businesses and a pie auction was held. What a fun way to spend the evening with those you love in a relaxed and adult focused evening.  Thanks again to PastorJoel and his family for a wonderful event.  night-life.jpg

rolette-blog-training-1-feb-08.jpg

This is us during our initial blog training in February.  We had fun learning how to blog and even though some of us look a little more confused than others, you can tell by scrolling through our blog site that we all really did learn a lot.

We were in front of the firing squad!

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

On Tuesday, Feb. 5th Pastor and Lois Hesford and myself met with the marketing class from Lake Region State College.   I was expecting to met with the instructor on what her expectations were…. surprise We met with the class… to give them a picture of Rolette and what they could market for us.   The Horizons executive directors decided to focus on the current attributes of our fair town.  The list was long of what they could market….nothing that separates us from the next small town.  Our friendliness and our commitment to making a future for the town were  the recurring themes. So if you have any ideas let me know, so I can get the info to the class.  Also any pictures that you think would be helpful.  As the semester continues we shall see what the final product brings.

Memorial Hall- Winter Walking Fun

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Although the well marked walking trail is great for most seasons of the year, when the temperature dips below zero most people prefer to walk inside. Every morning Monday through Friday a group of men met at 8:30 in the mall for coffee and toast some just coffee. After we have discussed local, state, and national news we walk over to the hall for some exercise. The key for us to leave the mall is when Stanley Haagenson shows up generally between 9:15 and 9:30 and then Frank Boucher leads us over for our daily routine. We walk between and around tables as many as five to six deep for a period of thrity minutes. Of course we chose to continue to rehash local and world problems as we walk. Some days we are lucky when Sue Nelson and Jewel Honsey join us while walk. They being a little younger then we are basically walk circles around us even so we enjoy the company. Don, Jay, Eldore, Stanley, Gary, Frank and on Thursdays Kathy Anklam  extends an open invitaion to walk with us. So come and walk with us. You’ll feel better if you do.

All For Christ Youth Group- Banquet

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

On February 10th A Valentine’s Banquet is being held at the Rolette Memorial Hall. To reserve your table for 5, 6, or 7:00 P.M. contact Pastor Joel Davis for ticket information. The meal is  a four course candle light fine dining evening. With steak and shrimp featured as the main course. Joann Martinson will play the piano throughout the evening. The All For Christ Youth Group uses the money to help fund various events throughout the year. Some of the funds will be used to take the youth to Sonshine Festival in Wilmar, Minnesota, a christian music festival that has been going on for 20 years. Other monies will be used to fund Bible study materials and snacks to eat at youth sponsored events. The community of Rolette has been very generous in supporting youth activities. Because of the great support the group has received, they have given back monies to the community through the Community’s New Year’s Eve Party and the Super Bowl Party. RADA has jumped on board to be part of them also. The tickets are going fast but if you wish to purchase any Pastor Joel Davis and the youth group will be happy to sell you some.
