The Rolette block party was a great success.  People attended despite the rain.  Lots of GRATE FOOD and Conversation.

bpsmall.JPG  bpsmall2.JPG     The games were fun for all ages: tug-o-war, turtle races, minnow races and the Merry-Mixer (you had a sheet of paper with events that you had to get people to sign who had done the events). The kids all received a back-pack.  The National Guard lead some games.

FUN TIME HAD BY ALL.

Reconnecting with your neighbors and learning about other peoples interests and goals is a good thing.

Horizons article in the Minot daily.  Comment on whether you think I am right.

…….

Rolette is going forward with plans to introduce Cash 101, a game to educate youth on money management, to schools and youth clubs.

“People in Rolette also feel that the real benefit from the whole Horizons process was the Leadership Plenty,” Jo Gilje of the Rolette Horizons Committee said. “Leadership Plenty really helped us out in working as a community.”

The leadership training program promoted community consensus rather than letting a few people make decisions and do the work, she said.

Fr. Row Karen Armstrong, NDSU Vice President for Agriculture and University Extension, Dr. D.C.Coston, Jo Gilje, Pat Beaver, Lavina Lemieux, Howard Lemieux

Bk. Row Tim Shirk, Gayle Gette, Duane Crowford, ND Community Foundation Executive Director, Kevin Dvorak, NWAF Interim Program Director, Deanna Arce, North Dakota Governor John Hoeven, Pete Solberg and Gary Linson.

Each community accomplished a variety of tasks for their Horizons projects. A few examples for Rolette include:

Twenty-one North Dakota communities were recognized July 9 in Bismarck for completing the Horizons program. Horizons is an 18-month project for rural communities of fewer than 5,000 with poverty rates of at least 10 percent. The program is supported by the NDSU Extension Service and funded by the Northwest Area Foundation with the goal to help about communities move from poverty to hope, from population and economic decline to prosperity.

At the July 9 celebration, North Dakota Horizons Project Director Lynette Flage recognized the communities that have completed the program; Anamoose, Bowdon, Cando, Cooperstown, Dodge, Gackle, Grant County, Harvey, Hazelton, Lidgerwood, Linton, Maddock, McKenzie County, New Town, Rocklake, Rolette, Rutland, Sheyenne, Stanley, Steele and Walhalla.

Governor. John Hoeven congratulated the representatives for providing the leadership their communities need to develop not just economically but also socially. Vice President for Agriculture and University Extension D.C. Coston explained how the communities’ work melds with NDSU’s Grow 21 efforts of working towards three essential attributes for healthy communities; (a) a diverse, resilient economy, (b) effective, efficient infrastructure, and (c) leadership.

911 in Rolette County

Monday, June 30th, 2008

What is the status of Rolette Counties 911 service being managed by operators in Rolette County???  Aren’t there enough phone in Rolette County to make it profitable to run the dispatch by Rolette people???  What kind of service satisfaction  does Devil’s Lake guarantee???  Are all the counties serviced by Devil’s Lake Happy?????  Is the Devil’s Lake equipmentup today????  Does Bottineau County offer a solution.  Is the cut .60 for personnel and .40 for equipment rental????  With that cut we should be able to pay operators $8.24/hour.  Not a bad pay rate.  Don’t we want JOBS like that in Rolette county???  Can we assume that operators in the County can process 911 calls better and FASTER?????  Please comment. I am sure I have some misinformation .  Enlighten me!!!

The unique ways a community earns income?!?!?!?

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Can you believe that the Rolette community put forth a spring consignment auction?  It was a unique way to get rid of what you don’t need and to earn some extra cash.  Some of the best deals could be found.. if you had the stamina to wait for the auctioneer to get to the items you were looking for.   (I know my brother in law came away with great treasures that he decided needed to be shared with my children). The auction started around 9 am with the berm of main street full of treasures and the auction completed around 10 p.m. What a long day! The day was full of visiting, collecting items and friends, and bidding on prized items!  Several community groups were on hand to assist with your comfort needs.   The All for Christ Group served cotton candy, mini doughnuts, and cold pop. The Rolette Fire Department served brats, dogs and bbqs out of the fire hall.  They shared the garage with the Ladies of WELCA who served pies and coffee.  I heard tell the wonders of a cherry pie that was to die for…. hmmm?  I wonder if that could be a new business in town.. Rolette the Cherry Pie capital?

Leadership the second is completed!

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

The class is finally done!  It was a long hard class but the participants enjoyed it.  This class was welcomed into the Leadership Alumi but the the Leadership Plenty 2007 class. At the ceremony, the 2007 class offered words of wisdom, thankfulness for the class they took, and the freindships that were made. Tears were brought to my eyes but the bonds these people made, the work they are currently doing and the acknowledgement they gave us, the trainers. We can accomplish great works! Heres to the inspiration of the NEW Leaders of this community.  Go forth and do good!

Rolette holds traditional Memorial Day Program

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

The Rolette Dethman-Armstrong American Legion Post held a very nice program to commemorate the Memorial Day Holiday.  A brief ceremony at the Memorial Hall included presenting the colors, singing the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, guest speaker and a roll call of all the local veterans who have passed away.  The program then moved to the Rolette Cemetery for another brief ceremony and a 21 gun salute to honor the veterans who have nobly served our country.  This was followed by a pot-luck meal back at the Memorial Hall.

It is very important that we take time to remember those who have served our country to protect the liberties we enjoy and honor the sacrifices that they have made on our behalf.

Monthly RADA Supper a Great Thing

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

rada-may08small.jpgThe May Rolette RADA Supper was a great success.  The monthly RADA Supper was put on by the Elementary School.  They will be using the money to pay for field trips and achievement awards.  Here is a picture of RADA president Joel Davis getting an update from Elementary Principal Paula Snell.  The RADA Supper is a activity started 5 or 6 years ago by Father Tom.  He got the idea from Towner.  The supper is put on by a local non-profit organization.  The community gather at the supper to support the hosting organization, meet and talk with neighbors and get community updates.   The City Library is also open during this time.  New comers to Rolette are given a coupon to a free RADA Supper.  These RADA Supper definitely keep the community connected.  Many community announcements are made here.

Rolette Wildlife Club Game Feed was a success!!

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

The annual Wildlife Game Feed was great fun again this year.  It is a great chance to clean out the freeze and share recipes with others.  The feast featured Bear, Elk, Duck, Walleye, Northers, Pheasant Egg Salad, Deer tenderloin and the  proverbial Deer Sausage.
