Gathering Place

Monday, January 28th, 2008

A Gathering Place is being planed for Rolette.  This place will be a “coffee house” style meeting place for all ages.  One goal is to expand a current business of Rolette.  A gather place is one of the Action Items from the Action Forum which is a result of the Horizon’s Study Circles.  The Horizon Directors believe the the skills learned in the Leadership Plenty training can be used to make this action item a reality.

How did we ever get involved in Horizons?

jo-working.JPGWith the new start of leadership plenty in the begining stages, this question has cropped up often lately.   I am not sure of how the actually official grant got started but I do know that you can blame or give kudos to Joellen Gilje.  Here is her picture and feel free to let her know how you think this process is going.  Along with that I really cant let her hold all of the blame… she has a board of director for Horizons… are you can ask her who they are.  Ha! Ha!  Can you feel me passing the buck?  I am one of the directors and please feel free to express your opinion to me as well.   We can only change things if we know the are broken or not liked.   Take some time and visit with us.

2008 Marketplace

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

On January 16th Duane, Peter and I took in different meetings at the convention and came back to Rolette with some practical ideas to generate more business in our town. The common theme throughout the conference was what sets your town apart from other towns? If your town is selling a product is it cheaper and better then the competiton. ? The Alerus Center is a wonderful place to hold a conference. I would like to go again next year!  The people of Grand Forks, NDak. did a great job of hosting the event.

OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER AGAIN!

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

I come from a larger town and in that town our churches all have their separate holiday services.  I like that Rolette brings every church to the table and shares a true Thanksgiving. This is an awesome town!  The following review of the community Thanksgiving was submitted by Pat Beaver. Thanks, Pat!  The Community Thanksgiving service was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Gail Tastad played the prelude music.
Father Phillip Chacko(from the Catholic Church) greeted the crowd followed by a congregational hymn. Tim Johnson representing the Ebenezer Lutheran Brethren Church gave the first reading. Reverend Gene Wilson of the Assembly of God Church gave the second reading. Reverend John Hesford of the Valle Lutheran Church gave the sermon talking about the pilgrims leaving their land in seek of religious freedom. He related it to our current situations here and around the world feeling the threat of terrorists. Also talking about the “first potluck” meal shared by our ancestors.
The community choir directed by Sue Boucher accompanied by Lavonne Ivey sang Grateful to by American and In Thanksgiving Let Us Praise Him. Choir members included Faith Knudson, Denise Foss, Beth Mongeon, Pat Beaver, Gail Tastad, Janet Arstein, Joann Oakland, Virgie Erikson, Lois Hesford, Johnnie Fossum, Howard Lemieux, Bob Gilje, Pete Solberg, Father Phillip Chacko, Harold Thompson, Steve Gilje and Eldore Gilje.
Pastor Hesfod gave the prayer of offertory. The donations were directed to Dakota Prairie Food Pantry. Pastor Wilson read the prayer of petitions. Father Chacko gave the benediction. The choir lead the closing hymn along with the congregation singing America the Beautiful.
A lovely luncheon of followed in the fellowship hall served by the Sacred Heart church work group.
Join in the holiday spirit by singing traditional Christmas carols. Practice will begin November 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart church. Performance will be on December 8that 2:00 p.m. in the Rolette mall. Everyone is welcome.
